Hi there, just wanted to say thanks for the comments on Robert Lopez's Twitter about my online master's thesis on out-of-the-box approaches to dating.

I was just curious, by any chance did you come speak to Eric Ulken's USC online journalism class last year?

Jeremy,

I can't figure out Twitter enough to see how to contact you that way, so I'll try this. A quick question: I was at your presentation for SoundVision about SoundSlides, but I can't remember what you guys said about the final step: Once the files are FTP'd to my server, where do I get the code that I put in my blog post?

THANKS.

Ginna

Great post Rue.

With so many digital journos wanting and needing "flash" packages it was probably just a matter of time before the gigantic Flash experience was automated down into something like Sprout.

Have you used it for a published piece yet?

Keep up the good work Rue,

Very interested to hear where you take this. I'm a little slow to mobile devices (must come from living in Alaska) but I'm sold on the journalist-as-programmer movement. How about an iPhone+breaking news game -- keying off something ongoing (like the twitter coverage of the Olympic torch in San Fran for example)?

Video and audio recording would be nice. I don't have an iPhone, but if I did I would ask for that.

I was at the Apple Store the other day and asked the same question and most of the staff there replied; if there's something you want that isn't already out there, it probably will be when we open their "apps" store in June or so. I assume the secret killer apps have already been written and are prepping for release soon.

One other idea I had was saving/caching youtube videos so I could watch them offline. Or some kind of caching layer so I can save videos from the web. The killer app for me is giving my mom a device where she can look at videos of her grandkids without worrying about her network connection. Sure I could re-encode my sources for the iPhone, BUT that's not ideal for consumers. Once I post to some video service I should be done, it should be published and cacheable by smart clients or video players.

So I guess the app I'm thinking about these days is a video player that can stream video and keep a library of your videos cached for offline viewing.

Certainly a wonderful opportunity but, for me, the cost of all these top-tier multimedia programs underlines the importance of your work (and Paul's and Lanita's and Jane's ...) at the Knight workshop. My company barely scraped together the money to buy me a plane ticket to Berkeley in December and things ain't getting any better. Training simply isn't in the budget for the foreseeable future.

So keep up the great work (and perhaps you could develop a more advanced class for poor small and mid-market journalists...).

I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you.
